The house we gutted in New Orleans belonged to an elderly couple who evacuated to Florida and passed away shortly after. The house was untouched since the hurricane 18 months earlier. (Enoch took the top picture right after we opened the door.)
I wasn't prepared for how emotional it was walking through the house seeing someone's life destroyed by simply, water. We were invited into the home of this polish family to labor doing our best to salvage valuables (pictures, jewelry and coins) . And as much work as it we poured in..., gutting is the easy part.
Still to come, rebuilding.
Repeat several hundred thousand, possibly millions of times and you have a devastated city still trying to get on its feet.
It was an honor to serve their family and the fine city of New Orleans.
And man, what a great city.
